I’m Danny Spears. Born in in a small town in western Kentucky, I was raised in the Apostolic Oneness Pentecostal tradition. At age 18, after accepting the fact I’m gay, I took a several years break from organized religion. During my travels from Kentucky to Texas to Pennsylvania to Georgia, I developed an on again, off again relationship with the Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches (MCC).
That relationship with MCC–and the God of my understanding–deepened in 1999 when I made the decision to leave my career as a Financial Manager and pursue licensure and ordination in MCC. Since my ordination in 2001, I have been honored to pastor 2 churches, MCC of Corpus Christi (Texas) for 5 and a half years, Holy Covenant MCC (Brookfield, IL) for the past 6-plus years, and I’m now pastor at MCC of Northern Virginia in Fairfax, VA.
For the past 17 years I have been blessed with the love and support of my spouse, Richard. We share our home with our two cats, Powder and Tony. In my spare time I enjoy cooking, reading, writing, and exercise (in varying orders, depending on my mood).
On this blog, I plan to focus primarily on life issues as they relate to our spiritual/religious journeys. The opinions I share are mine, and do not necessarily reflect those of the church I serve. I also hope my posts encourage healthy and positive reflection and discussions. Blessings on your journey,
